Leisure Time in Leeds

Global Cafe

My first week in Leeds almost end now. On Monday evening, I took part in the activity in Global Cafe located in the Leeds University Union. It was a great place for people who wanted to make friends and practise spoken English, because there are many students from different countries. There were quite a lot of people there and what interesting was that when my friend and I saw five girls sitting on the sofa, we automatically thought that they were also Chinese and sat with them naturally. However, none of them were Chinese. Four of them are Japanese and one is Thai. Then we had a great chat. All of them were very cute and friendly. To my surprise, the Thai girl’s grandmother is Chinese. We talked about the first day of the course, different cultures, languages and many interesting things. Although our spoken English wasn’t good, we tried to explain with body language.
The Welcome Party

In addition, on Thursday, I also went to the Welcome Party and had a lot of fun. This was quite different from my undergraduate university. On the Welcome Party we always sit and watch performance. But here I experienced British bar culture. You can see people drink, dance and chat happily. That’s cool.
Chinese Lunch

On Saturday, my roommates and I cooked together and we had a hearty and delicious Chinese lunch. We made Kung Pao Chicken, garlic broccoli, mushroom, tomatoes and eggs and eggplant. It took a long time of shopping, cooking and washing. But we all got great happiness just like we were at home. Although cooking does take a lot of time in daily life, it is a part of international students’ life. Believe it or not, most of us will be a good cook when we graduate.Life here is colourful!
